Fashion and style trends for hair are constantly changing and, when it comes to hair coloring, the variation always oscillates between warm colors and cool colors. Both trends coexist perfectly in the world of style and neither fights for its place at the top, but interchange indistinctly from time to time.

Here's everything you need to know about cool hair colors and how to apply them to bring out your clients' natural beauty.

Types of cool hair colors

Cool hair tones are best suited for those with an equally cool skin tone. The best way to determine if your client has a cool skin tone is to evaluate certain factors such as:

  • Do they tend to burn easily in the sun?

  • Do the veins in their wrists show shades of blue rather than green?

  • When their dark circles under their eyes are in direct light, do they appear purple?

If this is the case, then it means your clients have a cool skin color. In your case, cool hair tones are associated with feelings that evoke calm, serenity, elegance and professionalism, and have the advantage of being shades that are easy to care for and maintain.

Here are the different cool hair tones that exist.

Deep ash brown

This is a color that mainly favors clients with pale skin tones. As the name suggests, the deep ash brown hair tone is achieved by applying a very light or medium brown base and gradually adding platinum or grayish shades.

On the hair color scale, this shade is achieved with hair color number 5.1. The result is a mesmerizing and captivating effect because of its depth.

Remember that if your client does not have a natural brown hair tone, you should darken the hair progressively until you achieve the ideal result, keeping in mind that within this tone there are also scales that you can shade depending on the skin color of your client and the result you are looking for.

Intense dark ash blonde

This color tone exacerbates dull skin and does not go so well with matte skin color since it is better suited to white or lightly tanned skin. Intense dark ash blonde is a well-measured mix between coloring and balayage.

In order to achieve this shade on your client, you start with a light base to which you then apply the ash color ranges between 6.1 and 8.1. After that, you bleach it progressively paying special attention to the strands, which are the real protagonists to achieve the desired sunny and blonde effect. Ideally, the initial color of your client's hair should be between shades 6 or 7 to achieve a gorgeous effect. Otherwise, if your client has a very dark hair color you will need to add more layers of color to achieve this shade of hair. Always remember to weigh the health of the hair against the number of coats of hair color you will apply.

Intense light ash blonde

Cool blonde tones are at the forefront of the current hair color trend, and the intense light ash blonde is the star of the show. It is composed of pigments that leave lurking gray highlights, but do not detract from the blonde. Its effect is stunning, elegant and persuasive, not to mention its natural and rejuvenating result. It is a tone that you can recommend to very fair-skinned clients, as it will highlight their facial features, especially the beauty of their eyes.

To achieve this, it is ideal to start from a light colored base to avoid doing several layers of bleaching on the hair. If this is the case you are facing, you can directly use hair color number 8.1 on the hair color scale. For clients with darker natural hair colors, you can use up to number 9.1. However, we recommend using the lightest hair color (8.1) and gradually working your way up to the desired result. That way you will avoid damaging your hair with high chemical hair dyes.

Platinum ash blonde

Platinum blonde is an extra light shade of blonde with silver ash highlights in between the strands. It is an excellent alternative to revive hair coloring, as it adds shine and character. It is advisable to apply this color to clients with light or light brown hair tones, as it will require several layers of bleach to achieve. For this reason, if the hair is too dark and far from blonde, it can be detrimental to the health of the hair.

The number on the hair coloring scale for this shade is 10.1, which you can apply directly to the hair and bleach in the traditional way. However, if your client has a very light base color, it is possible to achieve a platinum ash blonde tone without applying this specific hair color. You can achieve this by bleaching with super lightening dyes, which are friendlier to the health of the hair. It is also important to let your clients know that of all the cool shades of hair, platinum ash blonde is the most difficult to maintain, so it will require special care that should be attended to by specialists in the area.

These four cool hair tones are the most used in the season and, as you can see, they are super easy to apply. You should always take into account your clients' natural hair tone, thickness and texture, so from there you can measure what type of bleaching it will need and achieve the most suitable cool hair tone.
