- The new beauty empire: hands and feet
There is nothing more relaxing for a woman than having her nails done, many consider it a form of pampering and a space for herself. However, until a few years ago, a manicure or pedicure was considered a luxury, almost an eccentricity or exclusive for celebrities. Today the panorama is completely different, since nail salons have multiplied at light speed.
To get an idea of how much the beauty market has grown in Chile, just look at the sales of this industry. In 2017 alone it reached sales of US$ 65 billion, growing 42.5% between 2012 and 2017, transforming it into one of the markets with the greatest development, according to America Retail.
Business in the beauty industry has increased exponentially. Corina Padilla, creator of Expomanicure & Belleza, states that in Chile there are around 17,400 esthetic centers, beauty salons and spas. In this sense, there is a varied offer for consumers, although permanent enameling and nail art are undoubtedly in the lead.
Nail art has become a trend that is here to stay. Decorating nails and making creative designs has taken over many women around the world. As well as the permanent nail polish, which dethroned the traditional nail polish, since it leaves a shinier, cleaner finish and above all, lasts much longer.
Therefore, as demand increases, the need for a greater number of specialists in this area necessarily grows. Corina Padilla, who is also the director of Manicure Chile, an academic institution that teaches various manicure and pedicure courses, points out that the art of the hands has become more professional and is no longer a poorly valued job, as it was 15 years ago. Today there are numerous institutions dedicated to teaching this growing technique, with flexible schedules and different values. Although there is always the self-taught option. On YouTube there are many tutorials that with simple steps and lots of practice you could become the rock star of nails.
